German Food in KC?

Any great German restaurants in KC? We just moved back after 7 years.

    1. I've never been there, so I don't know if it's GREAT, but there's a German restaurant in old downtown Independence. It's called the Rheinland Restaurant

      1. Berliner Bear, in KC,Mo
7815 Wornall Rd, - review from The Pitch (KC free weekly paper)

And my mother has told me on one of her visits to KC there's some sort of German deli down around Overland Park, but I can't find it on the Google-machine.

        edited to add:
here's a listing of German restaurants nationwide. Probably not a COMPLETE list, but quite a few I've heard of in the midwest area.

OMG - the Berliner bear is right near my house (I live Waldo-ish area!).
Thanks for the awesome suggestions. I love a good German deli...mmm....veal bad, but so gut.

My reply to podunkboy was removed, for reasons I can guess, but the Berliner Bear is closed as a result of the events described in a later Pitch story. If you do an archive search at, you can find out the reason why.

I think the deli in question is Werner's on Johnson Drive.
