Times Square dinner take-out? and wine?

Hi, thinking of just grabbing some take out tonight after a busy and long day, and watching the "Office" premiere. Staying in Times Square. Yes, I'm fully aware of the lameness implicit in this request.

Thought of heading to Virgil's (not sure if they even offer take out) or Cafe Margon (though I don't know yet if Margon is open that late; will check at lunch). Any other things I should think of? Though, I am leaning towards one of those two.

Also, where's the nearest reasonable wine shop? Just to pick up a simple wine for the food. Should I walk west a bit to 9th Ave? Anything closer?

Thanks for any ideas. I will report back.

  1. has a feature that lists restaurants with delivery. Any place that delivers will also do take out. Really depends on what you want to eat. If you want Virgil's, just phone them to see if they do takeout.

I can't think of a liquor store near TS. Found a list of several on 9th ave. as you guessed.

    1. Virgil's will do takeout as will pretty much any Times Square eatery if you ask them. Though if you plan to order pre 8:00 most places will be crammed with the pre-theater crowd.
Yeah, 9th is probably the best bet for wine. I like 9th Ave. Vintner, between 46th & 47th.

      1. If you do head to 9th for wine (agree on 9th Ave Vintner - decent selection, reasonable prices), you might consider taking out from Ollie's Sichuan on 9th and 42nd. Items from the Sichuan menu selections, while not up to GSI (sadly, the one on 9th closed), have been consistently good.

        1. Margon closes at 4:45. : ( I actually started to get used to the idea of a Cuban feast.

Re: Sichuan. That caused me to recall a bunch of Thai places on 9th. Any standouts in that area?

Pam Real Thai Encore on 47th, West of 9th is usually quite good. Pam Real Thai, on 49th, is their original pad (pun intended).

          2. Trattoria Trecolori, on 47th St., b/t B'way & 8th, has well-prepared homestyle Italian food, especially the pastas. For dessert, the tiramisu is seriously delicious. They do take-out and delivery (within a 5-block radius).
