Anyone eaten at Millennium recently? Planning a trip up to SF from the Peninsula and plan to visit Aziza, Destino, tacos on Mission street, and some other place for a nice light dinner. Anyway, we wanted to try Millennium. We are not vegetarian, but my husband doesn't do fish or seafood, we don't eat that much meat, and we loved STOA in Palo Alto (under the first chef).

I am allergic to wheat, so any recommendations that don't hinge on wheat (e.g. pizza, pasta, soy sauce) would be most appreciated.

I tried Millennium a few years ago and hated it, overpriced food, who wants to eat setan.

Better to check out Ananda Fuara, SF-vegetarian food. Website linked.

Check out Cafe Gratitude is San Francisco and Berkeley. It's Vegan, mostly raw, all organic/sustainable/local and wheat free. Very New Agey feel. Much lower prices than Millenium (a consistent criticism of Millenium is that it's overpriced.) Great food, something new and different and you can save your splurge money for a better place than Millenium.

You can find the Cafe menu on withthecurrent.com

I went to Millennium early January with 4 friends and we all enjoyed the experience & food. It was definitely a pricey meal, but I was happy with the food so hope to go back again to try something new. I have a summary here, if you're interested - it's very lengthy, but scroll down for meal details & photos. http://www.wretch.cc/blog/jumbacat&article_id=3079587

Millennium doesn't seem to be for everyone and I wouldn't describe it as a "light" meal if you order 3-courses. If you're not sure about risking too much money on an restaurant with mixed reviews, other places to try are:

Firefly (Noe Valley) - very cozy and seems to always have one vegetarian and one vegan entree on their menu http://www.fireflyrestaurant.com/

Cafe Gratitude (Mission) - more casual and pretty good juices, entrees, appetizers. Can't comment on their desserts though. http://www.withthecurrent.com/menu.html

Alive - http://www.aliveveggie.com/ Haven't been there, but it's raw & wheat-free and looks good.

I'm not very familiar with restaurants that can provide wheat-free meals, but vegetarian & vegan restaurants seem to cater to different diets more than others, so a link is below to a Veg Restaurant/Food finder. Restaurant information's provided, as well as some reviews.

if you have food allergies, i would NOT recommend going here. my boyfriend is severaly allergic to pine nuts - anaphylactic shock allergic. we went to millenium and let them know about his allergy when we ordered. they assured us none of the dishes contained pine nuts.

halfway through the meal, he started feeling odd. he asked the waiter to double-check as to whether there were pine nuts in any of the dishes we ordered. the waiter went away, came back, and said they were positive there were none.

at the end of the meal, we ended up taking him to the hospital. so they were obviously mistaken, or perhaps they used something that was not made at the restaurant that contained pine nuts. so beware of this place if you have food allergies.

greens is great - nice space with nice view, about the same pricewise as millenium.

firefly usually has veggie/vegan options as well and i believe most of their food is organic.
