I was looking at Saveur the other day and ran across something that sounds very interesting - for chocolate lovers anyway! This is a candy made of roasted whole cocoa beans coated with layers of white, milk and dark chocolate and rolled in cocoa powder. Sounds like heaven to me...

I tried Googling it and came up with the official site - but I think it was $28.95 for 11 oz. plus shipping. Has anyone out there found this product locally in the SF Bay Area? Inquiring chowhounds need to know...

TIA, Karen

Karen, you're in luck the next time you're in downtown Santa Cruz. I was just at Sky Meadow Apothecary yesterday (see link and photo from their website below) and they carry them. Heart-stopping pricey though...about $9 for around 3 oz. IIRC. Felt like a few beans in the tiny bag, so I passed and bought some Vosges caramels and a bar which were a relative bargain. :-)

I'll write a bit more about Sky Meadow on the Cali board, so look for more info there.

Tran, Thank You So Much for the info on this - I'll have to check it out next time I'm in Santa Cruz and decide if it's worth the $$$ - They just look and sound so interesting that I will probably have to try to include them in my Weight Watchers points for the day!!! A bigger challenge than the $ (for me anyway). I'm not familiar with the Sky Meadow Apothecary, sounds very interesting. I'll report back if and when I try them.

You can also find Kakawa Cocoa Beans at Yum, in San Francisco: 1750 Market St., (415)626-9866. Say "hi" to Paul if you visit.
