I second the Dry Dock. The restaurant in the Colony Club in Longboat Key (I think it's called the Monkey Bar) is pretty fun and good.

Divino on Main St for excellent Italian.
Dry Dock on Longboat for very good seafood with a view.
Bonefish on South Tamiami has very good seafood.
