Perry Street: Wichel's Times article slams service

Can we discuss the incredible slam on Perry Street's service in today's Times? Lightly disguised as an article on how to make spaetzel, Alex Witchel's column is the most detailed and damning blow by blow account of a bad front of house/dining experience (they didn't even get to a table) that I've seen in Dining Out. Thoughts?

Yes, it's "Witchel." Sorry for the typo. The question stands: Does anyone recall such a detailed and explicit discussion of an individual writer's bad dining experience in a Times cooking article? It seems a bit out of place. I'm glad to have the insights, just surprised by where I found them. And I wonder what Bruni thinks of what amounts to a downgrade of his 3-star review.

I don't know why it's out of place! and it's not the first time I've heard that about Perry Street, just not in print before.

The infamous one-star review of Le Cirque by Ruth Reichl comes to mind -- after all these years!

I didn't think of it as really a cooking article. More of an anecdote, and I was happy to see that recipe as a "bonus" - one of my favorite dishes at Wallse.
