Howard County Pattisseries ?

Good morning everyone !

I had a bit of a dessert emergancy last night and ended up buying a fondant take-away from a local restaurant, but I'd like to have more options available in the future.

Are there any reall good pattiseries in the Howard County / Baltimore area, or along the 295 corridor ... or *anywhere* in the region ?

It seems there's no shortage of bakeries, but I'm on a quest more for fancy pastries and sweets rather than breads and biscuits ... tarts, tortes, petitfours, confections etc.

Thanks in advance !

Yeah I've been having the same problem with finding good bakeries in Howard County, so I started baking on my own. However, aside from that, Bonaparte Breads is definately your best bet.

There's a small French pastry shop over at Savage Mill called Bonaparte Breads. While not quite as good as Patisserie Poupon in Baltimore (the best patisserie in the region), it is excellent and has an assortment of fruit tarts and creamy tortes, along with very good french style breads.

That was my thought as well. Their pastries and breads are really quite good, and it's not very far from 295/32. I'm not aware of any other French bakeries anywhere else in the Columbia area. Also, I'd argue your point that "there's no shortage of bakeries". I think that Howard County has quite the shortage of bakeries. Outside of Fisher's (more traditional donuts and cakes), which is ok, and Bonaparte which is great, where else do you go?

Ah, let me explain the "shortage" statement ...

this is silly, but I was pressed on time and driving ... so I was looking stuff up on my navi. I guess a better way to have said this would have been "there seems to be no shortage of shops with 'bakery' or 'cafe' in the name" although there does seem to be a shortage of actual bakeries ;)

Thank you all for the help; it's really nice to be able to get good qualified food advice from fellow foodies ... I think it would have taken me los of shortage to discover Bonaparte !

I should also mention that a trip into Baltimore to Piedegrotta is well worth it as well for Italian baked goods. However, I know that they were supposed to be moving, but I'm not sure if the new location is open yet or not.

They're just moving around the corner, but no, it hasn't happened yet. It's supposed to be soon, but then, that's been the case for quite a few months now. The new space is going to be awesome, with a window into the kitchen, and a few tables for eating in. Definitely check it out!!

Bonaparte is too limited IMO, and you wanna know whatta, HoCo no gotta, so a jaunt to Piedgrotta is IMO your best option. Manga bene.
