Marginal thumbs down on these guys. We were seated at drafty table near the back door. Quite chilly in that spot. And an isolating back room. But, the place seemed nice enough and the atmopshere was what we'd expect from a good steakhouse. I ordered their "Cowboy Steak" a Niman's bone-in rib-eye that goes 22 oz. I ordered it medium rare but received a charred, shriveled hunk of leather. Medium well at best. So I sent it back and got a new one cooked to the proper temp. Of course my wife had nearly finished her meal by the time mine came. When I got the new steak, it was quite tough. I'm pretty sure they slapped an ice-cold steak on the hot grill. Which any prep cook knows is death for beef. Very sad for such a nice cut that they charge $35 for! The sides were decent but didn't overcome the steak. And the steamed tomato garnish reminded me of hotel food. The staff was pleasant but offered no make-good on the steak goof. The waiter only asked if I wanted to order an appetizer while I waited (no mention of a comp so I passed). The total bill came to $113. Never again.

Can anyone suggest a better steakhouse near/around Menlo Park?

I had the pretty much the same experience at Henry's unfortunately, plus the steaks were heavily over-peppered. Disappointing because I loved the old Henry's restaurant on University Ave. Sundance used to be the default but I think it has slipped a couple of rungs and, like Henry's is overpriced. The red wine list is in the 3-5x retail range. I still fall back on Izzy's in San Carlos which is not an "A" but usually a solid "B" for me. Meals run easily $10-$15 less per person than Henry's because the steaks are cheaper and 2 sides are included.

We sat at the same table as you, since you described our exact experience. We did not like the ambiance, service nor the food.

We have had much better luck at John Bentleys (up the road on El Camino on the Redwood City/ATherton border)
