Oven fried tofu "tastes like chicken"

sixelagogo Sep 25, 2007 01:06 PM

A couple of years ago, I worked in this vegan restaurant that served an oven fried mock chicken using tofu, nturitional yeast (?), and tastes-like-chicken-but-it-aint powdered bullion..They coated the tofu with the stuff, then baked it in the oven and served it with a nutritional yeast gravy...sounds gross, i know, but it was really awesome (well, awesome enough to make a tofu-advertant me come up for seconds).... Does anyone have a recipe for this (or something like it?)

    Try this: http://vegetarian.about.com/od/maindi...

An extra tip: Freeze, thaw and press your tofu before cooking it. It makes it more "meaty".

Sounds kinda like it...sort of...But I'm hoping to find something a little more "chickeny (?)" for lack of a better word

        Then use mock chicken.

I'm not a huge fan of seitan, as I find it more chewy than meat-like.

You could try googling some recipes. I found this one, for instance:

Or you can go back to the vegan restaurant you worked in and ask for the recipe!:)
