Pinkberry-style frozen yogurt in Indianapolis!
After a recent business trip to New York City, where I ate Pinkberry every day, I did a desperate google search for frozen yogurt beyond TCBY/Baskin Robbins/etc and unearthed a review from a high school newspaper of Yogokiss. It's technically in Carmel on 96th Street between Allisonville Rd and Keystone Rd. I worry the strip-mall location will hurt business - the times I have been there, it has been extremely quiet. Plus, they have zero web presence (not even a phone number floating around out there), which is one of my pet peeves because I want to check hours before I drive up from downtown. And...I'm not sure the palate here is ready. Coworkers and friends tend to scrunch up their nose when I say "tangy frozen yogurt that's really popular in Korea" and most haven't heard all of the good word of mouth about Pinkberry.
They've been open all summer and I had no idea! I am so shocked that Indy has a Pinkberry knockoff before any other midwestern city even has a Pinkberry (Louisville apparently has a Ce Fiore). Yogokiss has a lot of the same toppings Pinkberry has (including rice cakes and cereals) but no green tea flavor of yogurt. The recipe for the plain flavor isn't always consistent - some days it's more tangy than others - but they are really generous with the toppings.
The store is furnished by Ikea and is cute but definitely doesn't have that same chic feel as Pinkberry.
P.S. On business in DC, I tried Sweetgreen's frozen yogurt and found the texture fantastic but the tartness lacking. So Pinkberry is still my favorite, followed by Yogokiss and then Sweetgreen.
