Springfield MO- need recommendations!

I'm heading to Springfield Missouri for a conference over the first week in October and would like to find some good eats. I'm worried about the lack of current Springfield chatter on the boards but am hopeful someone can point me toward some possibilities. You guys have never let me down before! Any type of restuarant suggestion- fancy, ethnic, diner - would be appreciated.

  1. I've been away from Springfield for almost 3 years so I have no clue what's around but I'll say there are plenty of restaurants to choose from! I think there are more restaurants per capita than anywhere on the planet!

If you can grab lunch at Nearly Famous Deli- it's terrific.

We lived near Ziggies and grabbed meals there sometimes.

    1. Flame for steak lovers.

Bijan's for French with a twist.

Gallery Bistro is American with twist.

Ocean Zen is Asian Fusion. Never had a bad meal there. Try the S'mores for desert!

Mr. Yen's is authentic Chinese with over the top decor ... rub Buddha's head for good luck.

Gilardi's for nouveau Italian. Love the lamb ravioli.

Fire & Ice for the atmosphere and ice bar.

Riad's for pita, stuffed grape leaves and lamb. Lots of lamb.

Hemingway's inside the Bass Pro mother store. Great fish tank. Pretty good Sunday brunch.

      On a budget:
      Grab BBQ at Buckingham's,

Chicken wraps at the Mud House,

St. Louis style pizza (think crust cut into squares) at Imo's or Arris,

      Burgers at Ebbets Field,

or have a Frito Pie and a burger at a great hole in the wall called Caspers. It's only open 5 hours a day in a an old Quonset hut.

      1. don't forget to check out Askinosie's Chocolates while your there. SIngle origin, artisian chocolates to die for.
