Lunch this Saturday: Boston Public (Meat), KO Prime, or...?
It's my wife's birthday, and I'm looking for a solid downtowny lunch (not brunch) option. I've read the relatively up and down reviews of BP(M), but hoped there might be some new information out there. Bouchee was another idea/possibility, but I worried it might be too Newbury Street, in the traditional bad way. Thanks for your help, y'all!

I stopped into BPM (after considering and rejecting Bouchee) for an impromptu solo lunch this past Saturday and had a good but not great meal. I think its a fine choice if you are already in the Back Bay looking for an upscale place to eat but it did not seem to be a destination restaurant. You are reminded that you are eating in the middle of Boston's retail mecca with a door opened to Louis Boston and half the patrons sporting shopping bags.
There were some great looking dishes that passed by my table, notably steak with an herbed butter looked fantastic. The glass noodles with beef that landed in front of me could have been great but ended up just Ok: too many noodles, half the beef was fatty in an unappetizing sort of way and the fried egg on top would have contributed a nice yokieness had it not been overcooked.
I would opt for Mooo or KO Prime over BP. Just to toss out another suggestion... I've enjoyed lunch at the Bristol Lounge in the Four Seasons. It delivers a "solid, downtowny" lunch right across from the Public Garden in a really nice dining room.

Just say no to Bouchee.
I thought Boston Public Meat was really good. The decor is more elegant than most steakhouses, and the space seems more intimate.
I also liked KO Prime, though.
Consider Mooo, in the old Federalist space, which I believe is open for lunch (you should check). It may be my favorite of the newbie steak joints.

Moo is definitely open for lunch..at least midweek. I haven't eaten there yet but the room is brighter than it was..and the menu is interesting..lobster bisque (was great at the Fed, probably the same), lobster mac n cheese.
I really think you can flip a coin between BPM and KO Prime..both excellent.
Bouchee is going to be a step(or 3) down in quality and price..not really on the level of the other places mentioned.
