Local salmon @ G&G Market (Santa Rosa and Petaluma)

During the season G&G Market carries wild salmon from Bodega Bay at very good prices. I bought a three-pound “chunk” on the bone, cut to order from right behind the head Friday to make a pan-roast. This was $10.99/pound, the same as for the salmon steaks in the case. The other supers in the area are charging $16+/pound for wild salmon.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to the Santa Rosa store. Now I noticed that the produce is labeled with “California” or “Sonoma County” origin where appropriate.

Whole ducks from Reichardt with heads and feet were sale priced at $2.05/pound. I saw a nice hunk of Chinese roast pork in the case from the belly cut with nice bubbly skin. I wanted to try a piece ($3.99/pound), but the line was too long and I was running late already. Hope someone tries it and reports back.

Edited to add: Places won't link to the College Ave. location in Santa Rosa.

Checked with both G & G stores in Sonoma County today on local salmon availability. Petaluma store only has wild Alaska king today but expects to have salmon from Bodega Bay next week. Santa Rosa store (1211 West College Avenue Santa Rosa, CA 95401) has local king salmon filets, $15.99/lb.

And looking at the "hot buys" circular on the website, some attractive prices through today on Estancia grassfed beef and Niman Ranch beef for Cinco de Mayo weekend.

Just got 5 lbs of HMB sourced salmon at Cook's in Menlo Park. Not cheap @ $25/lb.

Filet, steaks or roast for that price?
