Birthday Cake bakery (KC)

amyzan Sep 22, 2007 04:05 PM

Does anyone have experience with any of the retail bakeries or caterers/bakers still making cakes to order? I am looking for someone who actually makes their own frosting, for instance, and hopefully makes the cakes fresh, too. (I know it's common practice to freeze the layers, and this is allright for crumb coat, but I really would prefer not to have a thawed cake several weeks old.) I'd be interested in any experiences in particular with Spectacular Cakes in OP, or Best of Bernadette's Cake on Johnson Dr. in Mission, or perhaps McClain's on Wornall. Other bakeries downtown or in JoCo not mentioned? Whatever kind of cake you had, please share!

I went to a wedding this spring where they had a cupcake tower from Babycakes. Very tasty and no messy cutting.

I'm a huge, huge fan of the cakes at Andre's. My birthday is coming up next week and I wish my boyfriend would have a birthday cake from Andre's!

We ordered our wedding cake from McClain's and were really happy with it. It was a chocolate cake - not too sweet, very moist. I ordered a 5th anniversary cake from them just last year and liked it just as well.
