Mind boggling to take on the idea of deciding where we should take a friend who has never been in New York...

Requirements:

Downtown--preferably LES, East Village
Type cuisine is open--no Asian, nothing too ethnic...
Great atmosphere
Delicious food
$30-$50 a person
Good cocktails/wine
Quintessential New York
