Upscale Chinese Between Palo Alto-San Carlos

Looking for an upscale chinese restaurant between San Carlos and Palo Alto with good food.

  1. Given, the geography restrictions: I think the best bets for "upscale" Chinese might be in palo alto. There are two high-end Chinese restaurants downtown PA with decent food:

    Mandarin Gourmet:

I like Peking Duck on El Camino near CA Ave better than either (duck & fresh seafood are both excellent), but it is not quite as fancy though still a white tablecloth place. I would avoid Mings which is probably the most expensive of the bunch, but the most boring foodwise.

Yeah, I'd say Mandarin Gourmet is definitely the most upscale Chinese cuisine restaurant between the two cities. I haven't seen anything else like it in the area. Certainly not a "Dinner B for Two" kind of place.

Although I would love to hear of more like it...

    2. haven't been there in years... but there's

      Ming's of Palo Alto
1700 Embarcadero Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94303

      1. If you can stretch a bit to the South, Chef Chu's on the Mt. View/Los Altos line would be my choice. Not really upscale, but not a dive...

        Chef Chu's

        1067 N San Antonio Rd
        Los Altos, CA 94022

In terms of decor, it goes from Taipan, Mandarin Gourmet, Ming's, Peking Duck, to Chef Chu's. Peking Duck is kinda small, but they have the best authentic Chinese dishes. Honestly, I think the other four restaurants aren't that great in authentic Chinese food, but if I have to pick, Taipan is the fanciest and also the most expensive.

        2. If you want to move one City north than China Village on Ralston in Belmont has decent Cantonese.

Also Henry's on El Camino Real in San Carlos I have had good reports on but have not tried it myself.
