Market - San Diego / Del Mar .....WOW !
I am an LA / Las Vegas Chowhounder that recently spent a few days in Pacific Beach with my SO. In the past i enjoyed a dinner at Arterra in the Del Mar area ( i think it's considered del mar ) and i heard ( also, read a few reviews on the Board ) that the Chef from Arterra opened his own place near the race track....made the trek from PB to Del MAr to give it a try....the food...AWESOME...the service...well....ok.
SO went with the Duck appetizer and Scallops for her main ( we were too full to partake in dessert ) I went with the Heirloom tomato soup and the short ribs.
We were given an amuse bouche that was a blend of seafood with what i believe was minced peach....unfortunately, i could not understand a word of the dish summary from the server.....it was very refreshing. the bread basket included the best corn muffins i've ever had ....the muffins at bobby flay's vegas mesa grill is a close second....
the first service slip - we were never offered any wine or drinks to start...strange....2nd, the service opted to share his favorites...i'm okay with that but his description rambled on for way too long and he recommended about 1/2 the menu !
The duck ....perfect...so tender, so flavorful and a very large serving...yummy !!! the soup - it was very refreshing but i kept nibbling on the duck .
The scallops....again...amazing - very, very, very large scallops !! there were two Thai/curry sauces...i was worried the spicy sauce would overwelm the sweet, mild scallops...well...what the hell do i know !!! incredible balance !! and i was very surprised that they were perfectly cooked - hard to do with such large scallops...the "potato cakes" that accompanied the scallops were very flavorful.
The Short Ribs ...i was concerned since i'm kinda burnt out on short ribs....holy cow...by far, the most flavorful, tender short ribs i've ever had...and i loved the cornucopia of veggies that accompanied the ribs.....beautiful !!
San Diego - you truly have a gem in Market !
Thanks for the pix. Looks awesome.

I was there for the 2nd time recently and thought it was really good - LOVED the duck confit with grapefruit, one of the best, if not the best I've ever had. (I also had a good one at Modus, but Nathan Coulon has moved to the Ivy now.) If anything, it was better than the 1st visit. I still need to write it up.
