Wine Bar on UES

Any reccomendations for a decent, not crowded wine bar on the upper east side?

I'm taking out a friend of a friend that I don't know very well and want to avoid the usual suspects on the UES bar scene.

Thanks in advance!

Vero is quite nice, in the 77th and 2nd I believe and much nicer than the usual frat bar scene, without being stuffy!

    1. Uva is great!

      1. there's also the new Vespa lounge that has large selection...

Is it Leah? any specific reccomendations? I heard it wasn't so great from friends I usually go wine-bar-ing with. haven't tried it yet myself, but definitely plan to.

I loved Uva...haven't been in a while, but the last time I was there we had a bottle of wine, great cheeses and a really good gnocchi with black truffle sauce.

Thanks for the recommendation. Ending up going to Uva and doing dinner. Had a veal and eggplant dish, which was pretty good -- the atmosphere was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you again.

                Glad to have helped :)

          2. I love the Etats-Unis bar on the north side of 81st between 2nd and 3rd (not to be confused with the restaurant Etats-Unis, on the south side of the street), but it can get crowded so try to get there before 7pm. Otherwise you may have to wait a while to be seated.

            1. Pudding Stones.... 3rd ave.... i think b/ween 82nd and 83rd...
