NOW he's picky about his sushi.

FINALLY we actually get to go to Little Tokyo. I was thinking Gen for dinner, but he's wondering aloud about the crowd and price, which means he's thinking about not going there.

What is a good time for Gen? before 7? I like to eat a lot of sushi, will I be disappointed? What other options are there?

Yesterday, he started thinking again about noodles. Is there a place with good sushi and noodles? He likes his soba and udon, but i tend to prefer something different.

This morning, he mentioned pub food. *sigh*

Frankly, at this point, I'd be happy just with something that offers good sushi options with other stuff. But I SO wanted to try Gen.

How is Sushi Go Go Go (Go 55 - gotta at least love the pun) these days?

Go 55 looks great! I liked the ook of the eggplant appetizer...wow!

      Is it crowded?

I was there in mid week and on the early side so it wasn't. But someone with more experience (and more recent experience) will hopefully step up with a better idea of what you can expect.

Usually not crowded. But we do go early (right when they open). By the time we are done ... around 7 there starts to be a crowd filing in.

I have never seen it like Sushi Gen where there is a wait.

Also next door to Go 55 is Honda-ya, another Japanese pub.

If you pare down what you order, you can theoretically eat at both.

        Hello, Diana!
We have enjoyed Izayoi in Little Tokyo (132 S. Central Avenue - #213.613-9554).
It's Japanese small plates with a varied menu; you can order cooked items or sushi/sashimi items. Their plating is beautiful, but the place is casual and relaxed.
I think you can still park free in the Office Depot guarded parking lot...someone else might have more current info on this matter. I think they open at 6:00pm for dinner, but call to be sure.

I'm almost positive that you can still park at Office Depot for Izayoi.

izayoi would be a good alternative... but for soba in little tokyo, i say go to rikyu under orochon ramen in weller court.

Dump him!! *Oppps!* Wrong message board... ;)

Gen is almost always crowded... and it's warrented. I am not 100% sure if they take reservations though, so you might want to give them a call just in case. :)

One place with no wait and more options than just Sushi WITH a Sushi Gen Connection is Takumi. We loved their cooked dishes and their sushi was pretty good... although to be honest, I perfer Gen...

            Enjoy dinner!
