Ideas for lots of Asian Pears?
My father in law has a tree and we have a large box full (and could get more). Last year, I used my mandoline to slice some into thin rings and dried them and they were very good. I'm looking for other ideas...and any idea how long they'll keep? We love eating them for snacks.
I'm always looking for non-dessert fruit ideas, since I don't like sweets. I love Asian pears because they're less mushy than regular ones. Try this pasta recipe:
Dice some pears, crumble some blue cheese and heat some broth thickened with a little cornstarch. Serve on the hot pasta. Fusilli works well. Sprinkle with a little green onion and toasted slivered almonds or pinenuts. The hot broth with make the cheese melt a bit. It's yummy. We eat it once a week when our pears are ripe.
The pears will keep quite a long time in the fridge. We prefer not to store them there, but the ones on the counter were attracting fruit flies. I hope someone else comes up with other ideas. I could use them, too.
Asian pears are a great addition to meat marinades. Blend some up with fresh onion, garlic, and ginger, and mix with soy sauce and sesame oil for a Korean flair.
