Someplace good near LAX?

NJRFilms Sep 17, 2007 04:16 PM

My big bro has a lay over at LAX this thursday so we're going to grab a bite to eat. He has about an hour and a half to eat (2 and half hour lay over). Any suggestions for a place near LAX? We could go into Santa Monica/Venice but id rather stay in the LAX area if possible. 25ish per person. Open to anything.

I tried Ayara yesterday for lunch on your recommendation. Loved it! Great food, great service. Thanks!

Glad that you enjoyed it. This is exactly what CH is all about, everyone sharing their tips on dining in LA and the surrounding area. Each of us has some gems that others haven't heard of or gotten around to trying. I learned about Ayara here on the LA board.

Have you been to Pann's yet? Try their chicken wings or their patty melt. Both are in a class by themselves.

I work in El Segundo, so it's a bit too far at lunch... but will definitely put it on my list of places to try!

that helps. it's slim pickins for decent restaurants by the airport, but...

derrick's jamaican restaurant is supposed to have great food. i haven't been there myself, but the menu looks terrific...

there's also shula's 347 grill at the sheraton gateway hotel for standard steakhouse fare

I would suggest Caffe Pinguini. Good, quick food at reasonable prices and a nice outdoor patio.
            6935 Pacific Av.
            Playa Del Rey

La Paz in El Segundo. Just take Sepulveda south just past the 105, make a right onto Mariposa, left on Center Street and it's right there. Plenty of parking, neighborhood spot, very casual, inexpensive ($10 for entree/platter, if that), great Mexican, great service, great chips and salsa. I always take people here either before dropping them off for a flight or picking them up after a flight. Great lowkey place to chill and eat great. They close at 9pm.

If you want a nicer place, then I second Caffe Pinguini.

Alfredo Garcia RE: LisaStitch Sep 21, 2007 05:52 PM

Is it still called La Paz? I thought it had a new name and touted itself as a 'tequila bar'.

No name change that I know of, but I haven't been in a few months, and honestly I didn't look at the sign! They did physically relocate though - up until a couple years ago they used to be in a small space on Main Street. Now they are on the corner of Mariposa and Center. I'm not sure that the link/address below is correct...

IIRC they are in the space formerly occupied by Big John's, so the Center St. address s/b correct. Not a great move foot traffic wise, but closer to aerospace lunch customers and with better parking.

Chef Hannes on Main Street in El Segundo is a great little bistro. Tiny place, great food, good atmosphere. I think they have a website so you can see the menu ahead of time.
