<content>Looking for a nice place to take the wife and kids when we go to Buffalo next month to visit oldest at college. Not looking for a chain, or anything over the top, but a good, local place where we can sit and talk.

Perhaps italian, perhap american cuisine.

If anyone has any suggestions = would love to hear them.

      <content>Go to http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/restaurant.guide/nonframed.index.shtml
and take your pick.
Don't go to the Anchor Bar! As the pick will probably depend on where you stay or what school, you'll find that the guide has a geographic locater. </content>

<content>I was there less than a year ago and while it's more of a trap than when I first went about 15 years ago, it was still great.
The food other than wings has slipped. They used to have amazing pizza. Now it's just good pizza. That kinda thing.

My point would be, if you've never been and like wings, it's still a destination. It's also kid friendly since you can get pizza and chicken fingers and the like.

<content>Chef's is a good choice food-wise, but there is not much else in the area to "see". If you wanna hit the suburbs, Siena and Sonoma Grill, both on Main Street in Amherst (Snyder-area) are both mid-range places with good food.</content>

<content>"nice place to take the wife and kids when we go to Buffalo next month to visit oldest at college."

While there are hundreds of fine eateries near any of the colleges, I have listed a few that I feel are moderately priced, family-friendly, and fairly mainstream in the menu offerings. All are locally-owned and not part of a national chain.

If you are near "the northern suburbs" because you are visiting near "the University's North Campus"
American:
800 Maple
Original Pancake House
Sonoma
The Eagle House
Glen Park Tavern
Italian:
Trattoria Aroma

If you are in "North Buffalo" because you are visiting near "the University's South Campus"
American:
Loughran's
Italian:
Sienna

If you are near "the Elmwood Village" because you are visiting near "the State College"
American:
Coles
Gabriel's Gate
Pano's
The Towne
Italian:

<content>Just ate at Glen Park Tavern while passing through Buffalo and was very impressed. They were out of chicken wings, but the calves' liver (under "comfort food" on the menu) was so good my disappointment was banished.</content>
