Had the house professionally painted this week and in the midst of the chaos not to mention the stress - think about all the work of moving without actually going anywhere - I came across 3 old-ish bottles of Clos Pegase wine.

From what I can recall, it was a gift set I received years and years ago.

It is a 3 bottle wooden crate, containing an '88, '89 and '92 'Hommage". The '92 is a cab while the '88 & '89 are, I would assume, blends and just called red table wine. They are part of an artists series reserve that Pegase put out with works by famous artists on the label. The '88 has a painting by Jean Dubuffet on the label, the '89 shows a Miro and the '92 is a Sam Francis work.

Is there any chance that these are still good and/or drinkable? Frankly, I have no idea how good they were in their heyday and am at a loss as to what they would be like now. They have been kept indoors, at a relatively constant temperature.

Your thoughts and opinions are welcomed.

1989 was not the greatest vintage in California, but there is no reason -- presuming that the "relatively constant temperature" was a good one -- they shouldn't be good.

The only way to know, of course, is to open them. Have a "back-up" bottle handy, just in case, and enjoy!
