Best South Indian Food?

Hello, I'm looking for the most authentic vegetarian Indian food in or around Boston. Please help.

Thanks!

  1. Udupi Bhavan in Lowell is great. Get the thali ($7.95 /$10.95 weekdays/weekend) which has about 10 different dishes that come with it. Masalaa in Billerica also gets some attention - but I prefer Udupi Bhavan.

I guess there's one in Framingham as well.

I thought the one in Framingham closed. Enjoyed several meals there in the past but haven't been to the Lowell location. Still bummed that Dakshin was shut down.

Sorry, just Googled it. Near the one in Lowell is a place called Mysore Vegetarian, which has an interesting menu. I've only tried the falafel wrap, which was quite good.

By the way, I'm aware that falafel is not Indian, north or south, but is on the restaurant's "fusion" menu. They do have lot's of South Indian selections, I can't speak to authenticity.

Thanks for the link, had a look at the menu -- the rice dishes look really good. With the exception of some of the breads, the fusion and (non-Mysore) curries section which are mostly Punjabi, most look southern indian to me.

There's been a few sparse reports on Mysore Veggie, I'm hoping to hear more!

Try searching on the New England Board

                  great -- thanks!

    2. Chennai Woodlands in Ashland has the best selection (a massive AYCE buffet) and pretty good quality.

Second. Udupi closed Framingham, and opened in Shrewsbury.

      2. I'm of the impression (perhaps wrongly) that South Indian food isn't easy to come by locally. You might consider trying Rangoli in Allston for this. I also found this thread on a site search:

Tanjore, Rangoli and Bhindi Bazaar do serve a few Southern Indian dishes; I think they're fine, but not at the level of some of places that specialize in the cuisine.
