Chaat & Curries (Berkeley)

I went months ago shortly after they opened, and they had a little buffet lunch. I peeked back by yesterday (looking at the markerboard by the door) and saw there was no buffet. The waitress came to the door to greet me, so I had no choice but to eat lunch there. (Well, I did, but I figured why not). The menu had several lunch special thali, and then a Nepali part of the menu, with various choices.

I chose the Nepali curry (chicken and lamb) thali, ordered spicy. There were small (but ample portions) of the 2 curries, some cold chopped vegetables, a small cup of dal, a papadum, rice, and fresh hot naan. While I don't know what specifically made the curries Nepali, the first thing that came to mind when tasting both was how pleasant it tasted. It could have been spicier (I'd specify this next time), but there was no better way to describe the curry. Combined with very nice service, I wouldn't hesitate to make this an occasional lunch spot, or maybe to get a variety of items with a group for dinner. They also deliver ($25 min). I'd be curious to hear if others have sampled a more varied part of the menu.

Yes. I will add that I thought my food yesterday was better than my "buffet visit" awhile back.

    2. Thanks for the update. It is one of those places I keep meaning to go back to but never quite seem to get there. Glad to hear they are hanging in there. Did they ever put momos on the menu?

I liked the mango lassi and garlic naan a lot. I still want to try the tandoori dishes.
