If you can manage the $50 price of their tasting menu, you'll be one of the few people to enjoy this tiny restaurant/bakery. There are only 4 tables. . Make a reservation!
Read the detailed review at the attached link. It will answer all your questions.
Chez Laurent 991 Bay St.in Rosebank Hopefully, they will be able to expand their menu if not their size. If you go, whatever you do, make sure you have dessert. Since Staten Islanders are unfortunately not known for being adventurous when it comes to dining and $50 can be considered pricy for this family dining oriented borough, I would suggest you go while it's still open. For the quality of what you get, it's well worth a try.›6 Replies-

re: Angelina
I haven't eaten at Chez Laurent yet, but have stopped by to buy French cheese and breada occasionally. A couple I know have eaten there and really liked it. I hope to try their dining experience sometime, and I'm glad they're there!
French restaurants have a sad history on Staten Island...this was documented in the Advance some time ago. They generally have had a hard time making it; for what reason I am not sure. There is a still a sign for a French restaurant (Le Fandy), now closed, over on Tompkins Ave. in Rosebank

re: Angelina
Yes, I have dined there. It was wonderfuil, but as I mentioned, as of a few weeks ago they basically were only serving the tasting menu of the day. If you don't like what they are serving that would be problematic for you. That, and the $50 ppp, was somethig I felt I needed to mention. The Chef is a really nice guy. His speciality is pastry which is why I urged you to make room for dessert.
Remember: This is a multi course deal and true to the nouvelle french style.,
the portions are small but very satisfying. You will leave full but not stuffed.
Most Staten Islander's consider that unacceptable :-}-
re: Tay
Ha ha Tay!! I am excited to try the place. Perhaps next week we will go as this week is very hectic. So, your saying they won't serve me a pound of pasta with old red sauce and I won't be hearing Frank Sinatra in the background??? ha ha...I know exactly what you mean. I live in Monmouth County, NJ and we have a sea of horrendous restaurants like that by me, so I need not cross the bridge for that!
For French food, I will swim to SI!!! Ha haaaa

re: Angelina
Lol! You're toooo funny! NJ, huh? I just had a really nice Dinner in NJ.
I vaguely recall some NJ friends mentioning some sort of "bistro-ish" restaurant that they loved. If I can remember who and where, I'll let you know. ...
If you make it to Chez Laurent, I hope you have a wonderful time!-
re: Tay
EVERY place out here calls themsleves a "bistro". Please.........ha ha!! If you are looking for some really great French in NJ, in Essex Co. there is Lorena's in Maplewood. It's a hike for us, but ahhh the cuisine.
Once we go to this great rec you gave me, I will post!! Thanks Tay!
