Sweet Potato Fries in The OC?

I have never tried them, and I am so anxious to after watching a Food Channel program that showed sweet potato fries being served in a southern diner. I live in Huntington Beach and would welcome any suggestions as to where I can find them.

  1. JT Schmid's in Anaheim. On Katella, across from the Honda Center, makes some darn fine sweet potato fries.

    1. Veggie Grill in Irvine has them. All the food I've tried there is waaaay oversalted, and the fries are no exception. I suppose you can ask for no salt and season it yourself. Don't make a special trip for them from HB, but it'll hit the spot if you're near UCI campus.

I tried the fries at the Veggie Grill yesterday, and I didn't think they were salty (although I do have a higher tolerance for saltier foods). I actually thought they were very good. They were light and the sauce they came with was very good. I personally would recommend it, but driving from HB is a drive for just fries.

I'm a big fan of Veggie Grill's sweet potato fries and especially the sauce that comes with them

I thought Veggie Grill's were very tasty as well. Very light and crips and non-oily. However, my friend ordered the chili fries with the sweet potato fries and the proportion was off. Way too much fry, way too little chili (plus, the chili was all bean and little liquid so it was overall a dry dish).

Also, the Counter just opened up in OC somewhere and I recall they serve sweet potato fries as well. Never tried though!

      2. The Yard House has them, two OC locations I know of are Brea and the Irvine Spectrum.
Inka Mama's in Foothill Ranch also has them. It's a great Peruvian place. The fries are a little hard to find on the menu, they're on the back under side dishes.
        Enjoy!

        1. I like the sweet potato fries at Brodard. Served with lots of herbs and a spicy/sour sauce. Not Southern, but Eastern...way Eastern, lke Vietnam.

          1. Muldoon's, the Irish pub in Fashion Island has great sweet potato fries.

            1. Had them at Johnny Rebs. They had a Long Beach location, but looks like it had a fire and will be re-opened in the future, according to their website. They also have locations in Bellflower and Orange.

Beachwood BBQ in nearby Seal Beach also has them.

              1. Avoid the ones @ Angels Stadium; they were terrible!

                1. Just came back from lunch and tried the sweet potato fries at the new Yard House in Fashion Island, Newport Beach. Very good when crispy and hot, but bad when cold and soggy (like any other fries, right?).

                  1. The sweet potato fries at CROW BAR in Corona del Mar (on PCH) are great.

I second the fries at Crow Bar. They are the best I've had. I like their duck fat fries better though.

Triple that - the sweet potato fries are the only thing that's still consistently good on the menu, and they are awesome!

I went last week and had the meat loaf sandwich. It was the best I have ever had. Other than last week and hadn't been for 6 or 7 weeks. It was always wonderful. You feel it has gone downhill?

                    2. Had some at The Counter in Irvine on their opening day. They were nice and crisp, without any hint of oiliness, yum.

I second those at The Counter. Something about the oil they are cooked it made it better than the regular fries. btw - I don't like sweet potato fries normally.

                      2. Mozambique in Laguna Beach.
