Felix's
Want to put my two cents worth in, as I've seen several posts about oyster houses.
I don't claim to be a NOLA expert but have been a half-dozen times. Five pre-K and once post-K.
My best half-shell experience, BAR NONE, has been with Mike Rogers (ex of Uglesich's) sucking oysters shucked to order at the wonderful marble bar.
Mike sorted the product and ONLY gave me the oysters he felt were to standard.
The oysters were plump, juicy, and briney. The best this Mid-Western boy has ever had.
Standing at the bar with a plastic mug of Abita was oyster HEAVEN, in my opinion.
I've done Acme and now will always go to Felix's.
If there's a better place to schlep into and order a dozen, please let me know.
Otherwise, I'll fly my Felix's t-shirt, signed by Mike, all over "flyover land".

Felix's it is--we'll say Monch sent us and left t-shirts signed by Mike!! Uglesichs was our very special "Cab Driver, get us there in a hurry" first stop from the airport!!Always the highlight of our trips--and that's saying something!!! From other posts I gather there is a cookbook--if anyone knows the where to, and the name of , please pass it along---I'll be watching for the flying T-shirt!!!

The title is Uglesich's Restaurant Cookbook by John Uglesich, Pelican Publishing Company, Gretna, LA, 2004. It's available at most bookstores as well as online at Amazon.

Try Casamento's. They are fanatical about their oysters. Another neat place is Pascal's Manale-- true old school, stand-up oyster bar.
