Pre-dinner drinks around Union Square?

  • 7

Looking for a nice, intimate spot to have a cocktail before birthday dinner tonight. Any thoughts?

    What do you typically drink?
By "intimate," do you mean quiet?
What is the cross street of your dinner?

unfortunately the restaurant location is a surprise but i know its a sushi place in the area. yes, i guess by intimate i do mean quiet. just need a simple place to be able to sit and chat and have a drink with my GF before heading to eat. but anywhere relatively near union square is fine. it would be for around 8ish tonight.

any thoughts re. the bar at the blue water grill?

    2. If not on a weekend, you might have luck at Cibar, on Irving Pl. They do some fancy martinis and have wine by the glass, etc. However, it being a Friday, it might be packed with various drunken bankers. Peek in and see for yourself.

I'd also recommend the bar at Pure Food and Wine. Amazing wine list. They make some fantastic cocktails using sake in place of vodka. Obviously they make you less intoxicated (if that's a concern) but they taste unbelievable.

2nd rec for pure food and wine. the cocktails are very good. so is the food.

      2. There's a charming wine bar in a townhome on E. 17th 1/2 block west of Irving. Name is House or Home or something domestic along those lines. Very intimate with a small patio.

        1. In that neighborhood, my favorite is Flatiron Lounge on 19th between 5th and 6th.
