Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Boston (and suburbs)

Scollay Square on Beacon, Boston

Has anyone been to Scollay Square? I'm always on a search for half decent, moderate priced places I can bring a few work clients about once a month. I've walked by SS from time to time, but understood it was owned by the same folks as "Tavern on the Water" in Charlestown (blech !), so never gave it a thought. However in checking their www., the menu and ambience actually look decent. I may have to try it ... but any thoughts out there ? Thanks.

  1. It's probably been a good 6-9 months since I've been there. It is a decent spot with pretty good food. The atmosphere is pretty good, the bar tends to fill up after work and it's certainly a roomy spot plus they have an outdoor patio.

We've eaten there a couple of times mostly because of its convenience to the Boston Atheneum. Best way to describe Scollary Square is probably "overwhelmingly ordinary." Bland food; a space that doesn't quite work; inexperience if well-intentioned wait staff; etc., etc. If you are looking for something in that area, go down to Bin 26 or 75 Chestnut.

    2. I have been there for lunch two or three times but it was not memorable and not recent. The food was above average but not exceptional. I do remember that the accoustics were bad and the place was loud. Price was reasonable given the location.
