Christmas Party in White Plains - Need a Venue
I am in search of a venue in White Plains to hold a company Christmas Party. I have been thinking about Mulinos because I have gotten recommendations for it but have never been there myself. How is the food and ambiance? Could I do better somewhere else? Is it real Italian food or a glorified pizzaria? Thanks..Joanne

re: joanne
I've had decent dinner there and my husband had a large work group event there. The food wasn't amazing and definitely not inventive but they all enjoyed it. NB:for what it is worth the attendees work in the wine industry. Hubby brought home lots of leftovers and some of it was okay and some was very tasty. Is it sophisticated dining? No. Is it a reasonable and decent option especially for a large group? I think so.

re: laylag
I agree. I have been to Sam's once for dinner with my husband and it's not the sort of place I'd think of going back to just with him. But I have been to several larger functions there and thought that it was far better than average for what it was, the prices were reasonable, and everyone enjoyed. Plus, service at these events is very good.

re: intrepid
Il Mulino's in Manhattan may or may not be a "tourist joint", the times I was there years ago the food was amazing albeit astronomically priced. Mulino's in White Plains (no Il) is what I would characterize as an expense account joint, not sure that White Plains is a tourist destination persay.

re: laylag
both places lots of people go to because, they were told to go to..not because the food is great, its because they were instructed to..mulinos in nyc better than white plains, il mulinos roslyn even worse than white plains...tourist joint might be incorrect term..perhaps..just the word " trap" os appropriate, lots of restaurants living off the past.. and a name..not the current food

re: intrepid
I would stay away from Sunset Grille, the food is not reliably good and the service is iffy. Mulinos is quite expensive but Christmas is the season in which they shine, literally. I am a great fan of Sam's. While their food may not be cutting edge it is always good. They have never disappointed. You won't find more amiable service. The small side room would fit your party nicely. I've been to Aberdeen in White Plains when they were having parties in a separate room and it looked very good. Bao's is wonderful but I don't think they have a separate room. I was there once when a large Asian family had a party and the rest of us diners just looked on. The Korean restaurant a little further on Central Avenue in Yonkers, Kang Suh has small party rooms and good food.

about 16 people. If Mulinos iturns out to be too expensive - are there other places to consider?

re: joanne
I bet Bao's would put on a dandy party.
How about Emilio's in Harrison?
Has Trotter's left already?
Mulino's has it hands down on decorations, that's for sure.
Graziella's is lower scale, but good nonetheless.
One of the pubs?
Sunset Grille.
Sam's of Gedney Way.
Buon Amici, although I've never been there.
Ernesto's.
Tango Grill, if you have bookoo bucks.-
re: dolores
I think I heard that Trotters is gone, it would also be fairly expensive though. I like Graziella's but not sure if they decorate at all for Christmas. Buon Amici is good but probably would be cramped. Ernesto's would be good size wise but I like Graziella's food better and the parking at Ernesto's is difficult sometimes. They have private rooms at Morton's Steakhouse but it's $$$$$. Sam's of Gedney Way may also be a reasonable option. They have a room off to the side when you first walk in that may be the perfect size for your party.

Mulino's is hardly a glorified pizzeria! It is quite formal and VERY expensive. Check out their website.
