Any good places you can get broasted chicken other than Scootz? http://www.scootzeatz.com I love the food there but it's a little far from where I live in University City.

  1. Jimmy's...but the one is a block from Scootz...and the other is near Sports Arena...

You do know that on Mondays only Scootz now has all you can eat broasted chicken, right???

I went there for lunch on Labor Day. It was awesome! Is the spread any different for dinner?

How does the chicken at Jimmy's compare to Scootz?

To be called "broasted", the chicken has to be made in a broaster machine manufactured by the Broaster Company of Beloit, Wisconsin...so the chicken is essentially the same. No spices or anything like that. DIfference is the sides...and sometimes I crave the Jimmy's iceberg salad with that thick Thousand Island Dressing...and a potato, some sort of frozen veggies, a dinner roll and bread pudding. Plus, Jimmy's is not AYCE.

Apparently Colonel Sanders did not want to have to pay the Broaster Company any residuals and so He manufactured his own broaster like machine, added his own spices and called his product "KFC"...

Only have gone for lunch so far, but I didn't notice any difference in description except price.

Thanks for the info and the history lesson! I think I like Scootz version a bit more than KFC...

    2. Bread Bites & Moore: http://www.breadbites.com/

I'm not good at San Diego geography, but I think it should be closer. :) It's a few miles west from where the 56 meets the 15.

I think B B & More is a spinoff by the former owners of Pat & Oscars; not positive

I know the owner of Scootz used to work for Oscar's.

Both menus-Scootz and BBMoore- are similar... to each other (and to Pat and Oscar's-except that P&O doesn't do broasted)

Thanks for the tip! I'll give Bread Bites a try!

I stopped by Bread Bites tonight and tried the chicken. It was great! I like it a little bit more than Scootz.

      2. What is a "broasted" chicken?

Pressure fried. Crispy skin but moist..gotta taste it. It is different.

KFC Original Recipe is a close consistency- but has those spices in it...The broasted ones either have different spices or only salt and pepper so taste is different than KFC.

        2. Livingston's which is the taco/chicken shop attached to Sunshine Co. in OB has broasted chicken. I haven't had it in a few years, so can't attest to it although I always liked it at 2am heh heh

So great that you can order Livingston's chicken through the open window at the bar. The Mexican food's decent, too.

          2. A broasted chicken place just opened inside the NEX next to the navy gas station on rosecrans and nimitz. very odd location, but it caught my attention a couple months ago after i remembered this post. it finally opened up and you didn't hear it from me, but i'm sure you can walk in and eat without a military ID
