Kingswood on W. 10th is open for dinner

A friend of mine who lives near Greenwich & 10th St. in the West Village mentioned this place to me last week & last night we gave it a try. It seems to be in a soft opening mode as the hours of operation are still a little loose-she was told they were opening @ 7pm & when I showed up a bit early-I was told they weren't opening til 7:30pm. The owner-a very personable Aussie named Nick Mathers greeted us when we came in (at 7:30pmish) & took us to a nice table in the back area. He also owns Ruby's on Mulberry St. & said he had a restaurant in Georgetown in the Ralph Lauren Rugby store. The Kingswood space is quite nice & for a place that officially isn't open yet-it got pretty crowded. There is a hang out area-more informal when you first walk in and an island bar that separates the front area from the back area where the tables are which is where we sat.
The menu was fairly limited-as in not a huge number of choices but enough to keep a meat eater like me & a fish lover liker her happy. I ordered the steak & my friend ordered the halibut entrees-we also split a side of fries w/truffle sauce. We both got Hoegarten on tap as well. The food was good-the atmosphere was excellent-I think it's going to be a big hit once it officially opens in the very near future. Pricing was fair-my steak was $24 & may have been the most expensive entree on the menu. Definitely will return to try other menu items including some apps & dessert.
