Downtown tonight w/ no reservations?

Ok, I am looking for a place where 2 of us can go without reservations in the downtown, to Beacon Hill area. Specs are:

1. Can sit down w/in a reasonable time for 2 people, bar is also acceptable (maybe even preferred)
2. Great food (shocker)
3. Price is not so much an issue

So, assume I am getting off at the Park St. T stop and can go anywhere in walking distance. I know this is very broad, but we are not picky and just want a great meal. Personal favorites are welcomed and looked forward to. Thanks.

p.s. was thinking KO Prime, but got semi scared off by some negative reviews.

  1. I would suggest the bar at Mistral. Great food and one of the best bars in Boston. Mistral is on Columbus Ave between Berkley and Clarendon

    1. The bar at No. 9 Park. As close as you can get to the Park St. T and one of the best spots in the city... the bar especially!

The Bar at No 9 is a strong possibility. Any dishes you like in particular?

        Any other spots?

The prune-gnocchi are awesome. I also really liked the duck preparation they did when I was there earlier in the summer. They also make very good cocktails. I very much liked the Palmyra.

Sorellina near the library is a good choice, as well. Big enough that you will likely be able to get in on a Wednesday night; No. 9, not such a sure thing due to its size. Nice bar area at Sorellina as well.

Bar at No. 9 has some lovely salad plates on the cafe menu: heirloom tomatoes, cucumber salad with crab. It's not my favorite in town, but the steak tartare is very good.

Other bar-dining options nearby that are good for walk-ins: Avila (I like many of their small plates), Davio's, Excelsior (downstairs bar only), and Troquet (watch out for the pre-theater crush). More budget-friendly is Silvertone and Bin 26.
