Akrams in Kensington Market gutted!

Went for a shwarma an hour ago and found that Akram's is gutted, the whole building has been demolished except for the facade! Ended up at El Trompo instead, pretty good but I really have a craving for Akram's.
What happened?

When I passed by just before in the beginning of the month, the gutting had just begun, and there was a sign on the door that said "Reopening Sept 1x" where x = 5 +/- 4 (can't remember exactly). Maybe something went wrong though, because I can't see how they'll be back up and running soon if the building is gone.

Thanks for the info. At least the sign that you saw gives hope that the intention to reopen is there. Fingers crossed, it's soon. The outer frame of the building is there, but the entire inside is flattened so they've got some work ahead of them.

I can confirm that as of this afternoon the building is absolutely gone except for one front window and the back area. There is absolutely no way they will be open this month. It will be a month at least, when they rebuild the space.

I live in the area, it looked like there was a fire on the second floor.
