Poco Dolce chocolates with sea salt - great!

Today after a frustrating experience at Charles Chocolates "Cafe" in Emeryville (related in another thread) I went to the Pasta Shop in Berkeley/4th Street. I first tried then bought as a gift a box of Poco Dolce "tiles" of various flavored chocolate with sea salt. I found the flavors stunning and just the opposite of the forgettable sample of Charles fleur de sel that I tried earlier. Poco Dolce is new to me, although I found two recent threads mentioning them. Do others find their chocolates as good as I did?

    1. I find them only okay; Yield, the wine bar in Dogpatch offers them with port. Like pricey See's molasses chips with salt. I didn't notice the different flavors as being that distinct.

Miette Confisserie sells them too, but only by the whole box.

Agree, Charles' fleur de sels are a miss (I like other items of theirs).

Recchiuti's fleur de sels are still the ones to beat ($48 a pound). Fran's run $8-10 for 5 and are not bad.

I recently bought Fran's, both the dark chocolate with grey sea salt and the milk chocolate with smoked sea salt. I didn't like the caramel in the dark: it had too much vanilla that overwhelmed the actual "caramel" flavor. I actually thought the milk chocolate worked better, although I didn't notice any smoke flavor. I wouldn't buy either again -- the Recchuitti is still the best.

I also like Recchiuti's fleur de sels quite a lot, and find them probably more "refined" than Poco Dolce's "tiles". But I don't agree at all that Poco Dolce's are just expensive See's molasses chips with salt, and I clearly tasted the various flavors. To each his or her own...

For what it's worth, I love See's molasses chips.

      2. I am addicted to those tiles. To me they have just the right combination of salt with the chocolate. I'm not sure they are to everyone's taste, since my husband doesn't care for them. I think if you are the type of person who liked chocolate covered pretzels or potato chips as a kid, you'd love the Poco Dolce tiles with sea salt.

As a kid? How about now!

Wow, those sound great! I'll have to save my pennies and get over there.
BTW, Trader Joe's has a new item: Dark Chocolate covered Almonds sprinkled with Sea Salt and Turbinado Sugar that are very tasty.

Oh wow! I want some RIGHT NOW!

Speaking of Trader Joe's and chocolate covered pretzels, the dark chocolate ones are quite good.

        2. This is my favorite chocolate at the moment, and I'm not a big chocolate person. I like the crunchiness and unexpected flavor of the sea salt. But they are pricey. I see them at the Bi-Rite stores and Whole Foods.

          1. I LOVE these little tile chocolates. I bought them w/ one of the Charles' bars -- hazelnut w/ ginger. The charles' bar was not worth the $5 price tag. just ho hum. the Poco Dolce tiles? Worth every penny of the $15 price tag. I just can't believe how good they are.
