Hi fellow Hounds! Hope you can help this DC hound with a quickie rec for dinner. Where can we grab some sit down mexican (not much available in DC), outdoor seating a plus. We are staying by the airport this evening for tomorrow's flight have car and map.

Thanks!!

You're really close to lots of wonderful authentic Mexican in the sketchier parts of Oakland. Search on "Fruitvale" and you should get lots of hits (A district rich in Mexican eateries). I'm a fan of El Taco Zamorano on International Blvd.

For a more upscale option you could try out Dona Tomas (bar and outdoor seating).

El Huarache Azteca for cheap and traditional, Dona Tomas for upscale somewhat California-ized.

Both Robert's recs are excellent. Note that Dona Tomas has a bar and a very nice outdoor patio, while El Huarache Azteca is more of a beer joint (great decor with fabulous murals, though). Dona Tomas will be packed on a Friday evening, so if you decide to go there, call ahead for a reservation or to get on the wait list for a table.

If you head into Fruitvale, check out the handmade Mexican ice cream at Nieves Cinco de Mayo -- although maybe before dinner, because they close at 8 pm.

El Huarache Azteca has beer (and I think, unlike Dona Tomas, no wine or hard liquor), but it's not a "beer joint" in the sense of having an interesting selection that's a draw on its own.

Speaking of drinks, if you're interested in tequila, La Piñata #3 in Alameda has a huge selection. Food's hit and miss.
