South Beach Trendy - Where to Be?

I am going on a girls trip (we are in our early 30s) to South Beach in two weeks. I was there last year during Miami Spice (ate at the Blue Door and Vix as well as Prime 112), so I know all about that. We are staying at The National Hotel and looking for the trendy, fabulous, get dressed up, "see and be seen" restaurants in South Beach right now. Good food is important, but to be honest, we are more concerned with the cocktails and the "scene." In reviewing the Miami Spice list, I am considering the following restaurants: Wish, Table 8, Social Miami, Touch and Vix (again). Am I on the right track? Any others off the list you would suggest? Finally, if we don't go the Miami Spice route, what other South Beach restaurants fit our requirements? Thanks!

O Asian Grill is sceney & trendy weekends (DJ late night). Also ViVi. Wish (from your list) is a bit of a yawn. Consider La Marea at the just renovating Tides and a ONE drink on the roof at the Hotel where Wish is located (called the Spire Rooftop lounge). The boys from Miami Ink host a Lonely Hearts party Monday nights at Love/Hate lounge...

    Have fun!

      why just one drink?

I'm planning the same kind of trip as becca331 and would love some suggestions as well. We'll be there in 3 weeks--just for a weekend.

Just one drink to "do the view," at Spire because Wish is not nearly as much of a scene as the rest of the places becca mentioned. If you have but one weekend in South Beach, make a reservation at Social after 9 on Friday or Saturday night. This is a great place to start an evening in a loungey atmosphere as the clubs really have Nothing going on until very late. If you wanted to combine the food and the scene, Vix/Victor is best Thursday night, Social Friday or Saturday. O Asian Grill has a DJ and a late night crowd Saturdays too. Prime 112 is a very good place for a big meal with a money (older) crowd - but it's an expensive restaurant and NOT a club (unless you're on the lookout for a SugarDaddy in which case the Forge will also work4u
        ::eeew::).

Thanks for the feedback! I think we are going to avoid Wish. So you think the others I mentioned - Table 8, Social, Touch and Vix - are good choices? Also, while we are on the subject of nightlife, is Sky Bar a good choice? What about Nikki Beach or its restaurant/bar Pearl? Last year, we went to Mansion and Sweet. Any other suggestions?

For sceney: social is now a saturday place, fridays are not as good anymore. They changed the menu so I don't know how good the food is now (still same chef though) ...

Table 8 - Go on wednesday if you can, it is the new wednesday hotspot. Weekends are good too.

I think Vix is still good on thursday.

Touch does not rank in scene and their food is overpriced.

Prime 112 is still the same and Vivi next door (Carpaccio II) is pretty sceney because they get the overflow from the money machine that P112 is.

Set is now the hottest club. Mokai is still good.

Nikki beach is a sunday nooner place. Pearl is not in.

Skybar is not great - best night is thursday if you go. Nobu is still strong on weekends.

Oh yeah, Devito's is currently very sceney (what time is it?). But I do not recommend it as it is the king of overpriced food and drinks.

How far in advance do we need to make dining reservations for a Saturday night? We still haven't decided on where to go that night, but I'm wondering if we have to decide quickly? We're going next weekend.

most places 1 or 2 days will do just fine. Prime you need a couple of weeks usually.

Ok, I tried to make reservations at Social, but they only have 8PM or 11PM. So now we're between Vix, O Asian Grill and Table 8. What is best for a Sat night (our only night in South Beach)? Is there anything else I should look into that hasn't been suggested? I saw Nobu on the list but haven't looked into it. Should I?

Thanks for your help!! The girls put all the responsibility on me to pick a place and its a lot of pressure!! Especially since I've never been to south beach before.

Social and O Asian can both be done for drinks and just a few small plates. You can easily do both Saturday night if you want to. The walk is minimal. You could easily do O Asian at 930 and Social at 11 or Social at 8 and the O afterward and then hit a club later on if you have plans.

The whole tapas thing is about grazing. It's dinner for the commitment-o-phobic diner...

Great suggestion--I just did O Asian at 8:45 and Social at 11:00. Thanks!

I would not do Vix. O Asian and Table 8 will both have the scene you desire. Table 8's food is quite a bit better but is also much more expensive. AG's suggestion is a good one btw...

My guess is O Asian edges out Table 8 slightly on scene though...
