NYC chowhounder having b'fast & lunch in chicago

Tengo Hambre Sep 6, 2007 02:35 PM

So i need some help from my chicago chowhounders. I'm spending Saturday and Sunday in Chicago and would love some ideas for breakfast and lunch spots. Ideally your suggestions would include places we just can't find in new york, but basically i'm just looking for great local food.

Not knowing where you'll be staying, I'll throw out a few suggestions
for breakfast-The Bongo Room (Wicker Park & South Loop), M. Henry (north Andersonville), Milk and Honey Cafe (Wicker Park), Metroplis (Edgewater) for a great coffee & cafe close to the lake
For lunch: Huey's (Andersonville) for hot dogs, Potbelly (a local chain) for fabulous hot sub sandwiches

My last three visitis to Potbelly have netted fake "deli meats" two x turkey, 1 x roast beef. I would advise against since a good sub sammich can be had in the big apple anyway. For local flavor, Id check out some of the pizza threads for the standard stuffed pizza recs, and maybe hit up one of the non-chain pizza joints.

Where will you be staying? How far are you willing to travel?

Brunch/breakfast options: Lula's, Sweet and Savories or Lou Mitchells

For lunch, I'd check out Crust or Las Tablas (the fish soup on Saturdays is amazing!!)
