Is there any Jewish food in Wichita? I believe there is a temple close to me and every once in a while I see a sign that says "Jewish Deli". But I never have figured out what exactly the deal is. I'd love to find some good knishes or matzoball soup!

Saw a friend @ lunch today that could answer this and a question I think you posted earlier about the Italian place in Mulvane. She and her husband are both retired Drs. that live here in Wichita, but have a 'farm' down in Mulvane to get away. You'd think CO would be a little more appealing, but hey, I'm a transplant from the shores of Lake MI so it's all pretty flat to me.

The Italian place is called Luciano's and is right on Main St. She raved about the food and their wine list and I've heard other people speak pretty highly of it, so I don't think it's all small town pride.

As far as Jewish Deli's, no go. The Temple does a Food Festival a couple times a year that's open to the public, so those are the signs you must have seen. She said the kitchen in the Temple is the only certified kosher kitchen between KC and OKC, so the ladies in the Congregation do a lot of work for funerals (sorry if that's not the correct term), etc. She did mention the new Marketplace @ Dillon's on Central & Rock is selling matzoball soup, but the few things we've tried from there haven't been very promising. Sure looks pretty though.

The Central & Rock is "my" Dillons. I'm so glad they're done with all the construction. I'm not sure about buying home furnishings in the same place where you buy lunchmeat! But I'm a decorator so maybe I'm just biased :) They do have an awesome cheese counter though...

I am Jewish and live in Wichita. Elena's has Russian food and some of it seems Jewish to me, like blintzes.

The Temple has a fund raising "Deli Day" once a year, usually in Nov. Their kitchen is not kosher. The Synagogue kitchen is kosher.

The Dillons you mentioned has an amazing number of kosher items in the freezer section.

I always stand in the kosher aisle forever but can't decide what to get. I noticed they have a number of knishes-do you recommend any of them? The Temple-is this the one on East Central, and is it open to the public?

Deli Days at the Temple on East Central is this Sunday, Nov. 4. They will serve lunch and have items for sale. Anyone is welcome to come in and spend money on that day.

I'll ask my husband about knishes. Won't be doing it for awhile since I am getting ready to leave for my son's wedding this weekend. Remind me if you'd like.
