im happy and all for the publicity that the ballfields has gotten over the last 2 years but am i the only one who is a bit tired of the whole experience? im not trying to be one of those guys but lately, its unbearably hot, crowded, and filthy whenever i ride my bike over there.

I think the latter part of your post is why The Parks Dept. and other city agencies are getting more involved and want to put the space up for a competitive bid (why it took them literally decades to realize this is another matter entirely). It wouldn’t hurt to have some chairs, tables (the ones there look like they’re brought by the vendors) and maybe some more trash cans. If the Parks Dept. had any common sense they could really improve the fields and the facilities around it, which IMHO would improve the surrounding neighborhood. Others might say that this would ruin the ball fields “charm”.

The vendors cant do much about the heat - Ive never found anything about the experience (x weather issues) unbearable. There could be more trash cans but the Parks department could deal with that NOW - why arent they? The assumption that the city is making changes to clean up a nuisance situation is ridiculous - weve got a corporate friendly nanny running our city - so they see a win-win - make more money for the city as well as businesses with influence plus everybody knows that corporate licensed vendors are more "sanitary" than informal vendor groups.

The question for chowhounds is whether the food will be as good or better under a new regime and I tend to strongly doubt it.

yipee! We went for the first time this past weekend...and all I could say was, why did we wait so long? Can't wait to return this weekend so we can try what we didn't get around to last weekend.
