DAL: Am I in for a beating if I go to Coal Vines tonight?

I really want to try this place but if it is too noisy, an over-the-top yuppster scene, and slow service than I will not go. Would Fireside Pies be better?

There will be four of us going at 7:30 PM on a Thursday.

  1. I'd say it's a bad idea to go there at 7:30 on a thursday, it'll probably be pretty busy and have slow service.

    1. you expect to have better luck avoiding noise and over-the-top yupsters at fireside pies?... love fireside pies but hello

LMAO! Thanks for the info. I've never been to either place and it doesn't look like I'm going tonight either.

Yes, you would definately be in for a beating at either one. I only go to those joints at "off hours" as the tragically hip dominate.

I've not tried either of these places yet for the very same reasons - although I hear good things about both. What are the "off hours" you have found good for decent service?

I've been to Coal Vines at 8:30 pm on a tuesday and it wasn't crowded at all (nor was it empty). Also I've been for late lunch (~1 or 1:30) and it's fine.

I was going to suggest late lunch, it's a very good time to eat at Coal Vines.

      2. both places are entirely reasonable for dinner as long as you get there by 6 p.m.; even 6:30 isn't too bad. by around 7 is when it starts to get to be too much (for me, anyway). but i think they're both fabulous and well worth your time

        1. I've been to both, and both are generally crowded. The food is better at coal vines and the wine selection is better, too.
