What is another name for "Red Fish"?

Gulf coast recipe on the Today Show on 9-6-2007 "Courtbouillon with Oysters and Shrimp" also calls for 2 1/2 to 3 pounds of whole red fish. Any ideas?

They are also commonly called spot tailed bass. They can get upwards of 40 lbs, Biggest ones are usually caught in the surf. Inshore they tend to be smaller, from 1 to 10 lbs depending on where you are fishing. Most states have a minimum and maximum size limit (based on length) which translates from about 2 lbs to 9 lbs.

You could substitute a snapper and keep the same texture, and I am certain it would be equally as good

Redfish is also known as Red Drum, but a whole 2-3lb red drum would be a baby.

According to fishbase.org, in the Gulf Region, Redfish is a name for a Red Drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) AKA Channel Bass, a type of Croaker.
