I noticed these gorgeous appliances at WS, very high end and very expensive. French door ovens! The La Cornue website has some unbelievable options.

Has anyone out there tried cooking on one of these? Are they worth it? Other than the exotic look, are they any better than the other pro style ranges out there?

I have one in my house in France.

It is absolutely wonderful, and very gorgeous to boot.

I would love to get one for our home in NYC, but my DH isn't ready for the sticker shock!

Unless you have unlimited funds, I wouldn't recommend La Cornue in the US. If you do, they are wonderful. The doors make for easy access. Mine came with the house, which was previosly owned by an aristocratic French family who moved to Argentine to be near their children and grandchildren. It is about 30 years old, and came with all the bells and whistles like plate warmers and Salamander.

Any of these high end stoves are unbelievably expensive to repair. My Thermador 6 burner with grill in the middle here in NY is terrific, but the cost of repairs is outrageously high. A guest last year turned up the oven, and ripped off the knob. That is one of the reasons why I never let anyone into my kitchen, it is just so aggravating.

The knob and thermostat had to be replaced for almost $700.

I know this is an old posting but yes I have a La Cornue Chateau series I love it. It is an exceptional cooking machine. I also own a Wolf so can compare them easily. My preference is for the La Cornue and they cost no more than anything else to repair, mine is 7 years old and has not gone wrong,, they are incredibly reliable.

Hello,

I would appreciate some comparison information regarding a range purchase. I am considering a new La Cornue Cornufe or a pre-used La Cornue chateau range.
Do you recommend purchasing a pre-used La Cornue built in 2000?

A friend has one in his Seattle home, when the oven broke it took nearly 2 months to get parts for it. Even then the oven’s temperature has large fluctuations and is not very good. The burners are just average compared to a wolf and it lack’s a infrared grill.

For the amount of money he spent on his rather under-whelming stove you could have built a fabulous kitchen from the ground up. Mostly these stoves are nothing more than status symbols. FWIW I find them hideously ugly.
