Wendy's Onion rings - Local Oddity? [moved from Boston board]

I know its a chain but im posting here because this seems to be a local oddity. The corporate website has no mention of it, nor have i ever seen or heard of this anywhere else.

I drove by Wendy's in Maynard today and the sign said "try our REAL onion rings"

I didnt stop but i have to admit it got my curiousity....

Anyone ever had these? Or even seen them for that matter?

  1. Had them a couple weeks ago. Pretty good. Very similar to the ones from BK.

How can they be both "pretty good" and "very similar to the ones from BK?" Mutually exclusive concepts, IMHO.

If they are very similar to BK"s, they can't be very good at all.

      2. I tried them this weekend. The sign should say, "try our REAL (previously frozen) onion rings"

I got a small which had about six rings in it. Breaded coating fell off half of them, and they tasted just horrible. I threw half of them away....NG

bummer. Sounded promising from the sign.. I hate the BK ones.. Chopped up onion inside, yuck...

Seriously? I've loved them since I was a kid. The only reason I go to BK is for the rings.

        2. They've had them in other areas of the country before here - no local oddity.

Compared to most fast food rings, they're pretty good - but I *really* wouldn't go out of your way. If those *'s around the *really* could have more emphasis, it have them.

          1. I had them yesterday. One order had four onion rings and the coating was def falling off. Not so good.

            1. I had them at a Wendy's in New Jersey a couple months ago, and wasn't impressed. I agree that they taste like BK's rings and have that chopped onion meal texture inside instead of the real onion slices.
