Visiting Olana in Hudson, NY, places to eat?

BluPlateSpec Sep 4, 2007 12:59 PM

We'll be visiting Olana, the home of Frederic Church, who was an important landscape painter of the nineteenth century in Hudson, New York. Don't know anything about the area and would appreciate recommendations for places to eat within a 20 mile or so radius. Also any other places to see in that area. Thanks.

Some seem to think that Mexican Radio in Hudson is good. I personally never make it past the Armadillo Bar and Grill in Kingston, so wouldn't know from experience.

there's a mexican radio in the city (sister location), so it's probably not of interest. i haven't been, but i'd suggest swoon kitchenbar...

I happen to work at Olana and if you don't know, we're closed on Monday. If you're here on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday I'd recommend visiting Thomas Cole's house in Catskill - directly across the bridge from Olana.

Hudson is our closest city (about 5 miles north) and the most reliable restaurants for lunch are Mexican Radio (sister of NYC and open every day) - nearby is Le Gamin Country (there are 5 of these in NYC - open every day for lunch) and boasts great crepes made by authentic French people. Swoon Kitchen Bar (open every day for lunch) and across the street from Swoon is Ca' Mea (Italian) open every day but Tuesday. Hudson's other restaurants are often changing their opening hours so not reliable - the town is a ghost town on Tuesdays and Wednesdays because the shops are closed. Across the river from Olana is Catskill and there are two spots for lunch there - Mod and Bell's Cafe - both open every day for lunch. Hope you have a nice visit.
