Great roadfood near NE, SD, WY (I-29)

Traveling from Buffalo, NY to Helena, MT in October. Definitely going to hit Lexington and Louisville, KY and BBQ in St Louis and KC. After that, I'm kinda stuck. Should I travel north through Omaha and Sioux City or Denver?

Looking for hidden gems out west. Please help!!!

  1. Here are a couple of good South Dakota threads to get you started:

You'll want to post your Wyoming questions on the Southwest board.

Have a great trip! Please do report back.

We drove north on I-29 from KC this summer to I-90. We wanted to stop at Bob's in Sioux Falls, but it was a Sunday and they were closed. We did eat at the Firehouse in Rapid City. The food and the beer they make were both very good. It was mentioned in one of the older posts linked by TDQ above. If you decide to continue west on I-90 I strongly recommend Matt's Place in Butte. It is right of the interstate. It was one of the best meals we had out west.
If we make that drive again, we will not be returning on I-80. It was chain, chain, chains....got to agree with bbqboy, I-70 has many more dining possibilities.
