Where to have a Quiet conversation in west side
A member of my family is very hard of hearing and noisy restaurants need to be avoided.
We're trying to put together a dinner for tomorrow evening with other family members and would like to see if anyone can suggest a restaurant that fits the bill. Cuisine could be anything, though we tend to avoid italian. The price range is flexible, up to $75 a person without wine or dessert is certainly okay.
Our boundaries lie between the west 70s down to the meat packing district, but on the west side.
We had been suggested Jarnac, french bistro. Anyone been there? Thoughts?
Anyone other suggestions?

Telepan--69 and Columbus. Excellent food, good service but "not in your face" and good value.

Compass, on 70th St., b/t Amsterdam & West End Avs, serves excellent New American cuisine. Good service. Very attractive contemporary decor. Though the space is large, I've always found the noise level to be conversation-friendly.
