Cotati Farmers Market . . . and Crane Melons

Last week I had a chance to browse the Thursday evening farmers market in Cotati for the first time. Imagine my surprise to see Crane melons from Sundance Farms, just a few miles away on Petaluma Hill Road. Yes, Crane melons in August! This vendor also sells at the Petaluma market. He said that everything was early this year since it was dry enough to plant earlier than usual.

Can't report on how the Cranes tasted, as I got distracted by the haogen melons. I had him pick out one for my breakfast the next day. It was fantastic.

  1. I saw some Crane Melons at the Ferry Building Farmers' Market yesterday as well.

    1. Was back here last week (for the closing session of this season's market) and picked up a yellow-skinned, green flesh melon called Boule d'or from Sundance again. Very juicy and almost crisp textured flesh. $2/lb.
