I will be traveling to Charleston & Savannah and am eager to sample true, authentic southern cooking. I would greatly appreciate some restaurant suggestions. Thanks!!

In Charleston the best fine dining recommendations are Charleston Grill and Planters Grill both across the street from each other in the historic district. McCready's is nice as well. In Savannah fine dining would be Elizabeth on 37th. You might try Bistro Savannah also.

Second the rec for Elizabeth's on 37th. Have eaten there numerous times. Great food and excellent service. Celebrated my Mom's birthday one year. Ate upstairs in the old living area that Elizabeth and her family occupied at one time. It was a special reservation. Had it to ourselves. Great time.

Went to the Bistro in Savannah - across from the Market, next to the Irish Pub. OUTSTANDING! Paula Deen's is not worth the long wait. In Charleston, Hyman's is all hype and grease. Meritage is great tapas, Coast is great fish, McCrady's is very good and for a real experience, go out towards Folly Beach and go to Bowen's. It was a dive, burned down, but reopened, but has the best oysters and view in town.
